Therapy can be short or long-term, depending on an individual's preferences and situation. Some benefit from talk therapy alone, while others use it in conjunction with medical treatment with a psychiatrist or other qualified medical professional.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
One of the forms of psychotherapy I practice is EMDR, which has been proven to assist people in the process of healing and moving on from disturbing past experiences. It is often able to do this in shorter periods of time than more traditional forms of psychotherapy. EMDR can be incorporated into individual and couples therapy. You can find more information about this innovative form of treatment by visiting the EMDR International Association's website.
